Journals

I have had the great fortune of working on some truly inspiring projects while networking with many influential and creative individuals along the way. These are the journals I worked on throughout the semester. I put in my best effort in revising each and every one of them for this portfolio and I hope you find them fascinating. Carry on!

Journal 1 - Be Gender Blind

In this journal, I made connections between Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's views on gender equality in her book "we should all be feminist" and Truth Sojourner's speech "Ain't I a woman?". Click the button below to a pdf copy of my writing.

Journal 2 - Fear is Human

This journal was kind of a personal exploration. We were expected to think about what we dread the most and write about how we feel about it. We we also told to imagine to imagine what it would feel like if we actually tried to do that activity.

Journal 3 - Yang

In this journal, we put the objective 'paying attention' to the test. We chose an object which we considered important to us and we were expected to draw it three different times. Paying attention to detail was an important part of this journal and it was where emphasis was laid. My object was a necklace with the white part (yang) of the Yin Yang chinese symbol.

Journal 4 - Not Always Blissful

In this journal, the topic to be considered was ignorance. I read Neil deGrasse Tyson's essay "perimeter of ignorance" and listened to a speech presented by Jelani Cobb at Yale. Click the button below to view a pdf version of the journal.

Journal 5 - Questioning

This journal helped us explore questioning. That is basically what this journal contains, questions concerning questioning topic and what I feel will be the answers to the questions.

Journal 6 - The feel of Being Human

In this journal, I explored the true meanings of three different songs and inter connected them to arrive at a census. The songs I picked are from the same Artiste, Jon Bellion. Bellion is a pop Artiste and though his name doesn't come up frequently in today's pop culture, his songs are powerful and have a lot of meaning behind each lyric. I have attached the songs so feel free to stream them as you read the journal to get deeper insight of the journal.

Journal 7 - Opportunities

Writing this journal made me appreciate my privileges. Roxanne Gay highlights that contrary to some people's belief, everyone has on privilege or the other over another person at any given time. In this journal I acknowledge my own privileges and write about them as honestly as I can.

Journal 8 - Gun Laws and Violence

This is the only journal throughout the semester that required group effort. I truly enjoyed working with other people to come up with a topic that is often skimmed over due to its divisive nature and talk about it in my own words. While writing this journal, I also got to find out some facts about Gun Control I wouldn't have come across on a regular basis thanks to the excessive research it required. I hope to engage in other group projects in my other courses as this journal gave me a new appreciation for them.
